2018 Little Miss Service Project

For my service project, I chose to volunteer at the Animal Humane Society. On March 4th, in Golden Valley, I took a class to become certified as a Rescue Reader. This means that I can read to the animals in the shelter to calm them down and make them feel happy until they are placed in a home. On March 7th in Woodbury, I read to cats and dogs. Reading to the animals really made them feel much safer, because many come to the shelter feeling very scared.
I also made tie blankets for the animals. I made seven large  blankets and it took a lot of time. The tie blankets make the animals feel warm. From the scraps of the blankets, I made chew toys. The animals feel so much better when they have something to play with. The shelter was so happy for more blankets, because they ran out!
I chose this project because I love animals and love helping them. I believe they deserve a chance, just as much as we do.
This was a really fun service project and I am so happy that I could help the animals at the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley and Woodbury.

2018 Jr Miss Sponsor visit

On Wednesday March 7th I had the opportunity to meet with my sponsor the Inver Grove Heights and South Saint Paul Rotary. I joined them for lunch and got an insight on what their weekly meeting is all about. I had the opportunity to meet many of the members who have supported me so far this year. I spoke about my service project that I did back in October and the one that I am currently working on. I also had the opportunity to meet the president of Neighbors Inc. which is an organization that I worked with on my first service project. I had a great time and I can`t wait to go back to visit with them again.

2018 Woodbury Luau

On Saturday March 3rd Little Miss Piper, Little Miss princess Cheyanne, and I attended a luau which was hosted by the Woodbury royalty. We had lots of fun learning new dances and competing in the hula hoop and limbo contest. We got to interact with a lot of other royalty groups and learn more about the current Woodbury royalty. We ended the night by getting some yummy treats from the bake sale that was being held at the event. Overall I had a great time accompanied by Piper and Cheyanne who always make events fun.

Cheyennes Service Project

As Little Miss Princess, one of my duties is to do a service project. In December of 2017, I participated in Crossroads Church, Grocery Giveaway, in Inver Grove Heights. The first Saturday of every month they pass out groceries to the people in need in the community. I helped raise some food to donate to the grocery giveaway. I then helped set up for the grocery giveaway, pass out food to the community, separated toys for the children and helped clean up afterwards. I really enjoyed separating the toys for the children that were passed out to them for holiday season, there was so many!! I learned to give during this time of the year, although it was hard to see all the toys, it felt really good giving them out. I also really enjoyed passing out the food to the people. I got to work the dessert table, it was nice to see all the people smile. I learned that it is important to help out when you can to help others out during this time of the holiday season and throughout the year when you can. I want to thank Crossroads Church for letting me help, especially Dave Sanford and Father Mike for there help in coordinating. Also, a great big thanks to the people who donated to my collection of groceries, Anna Doucette Spychalla and Sheila Medina -Janikula, I appreciate the groceries. This was a really great learning event for me in the community.

2018 Neighbors Food Drive

My royal sister, Cheyanne and I helped with the bagging event at Cub Foods sponsored by Neighbors, Inc. We told customers about giving donations and that they could get their groceries bagged. We let them know that the donations would go to people in need. I liked this event, because it was fun and helpful. My favorite part was collecting the signs at the end when we were cleaning up. We had to go around the store to find the blue Neighbors signs. Cheyanne, Rochelle, Lori, and I had fun trying to see who could collect the most. It was a fun afternoon!

Aquatennial Women’s Expo

On Saturday, March 3rd, my royal sister Hanah and I went to the Aquatennial Women’s Expo! In the morning, we had the opportunity to learn from AAO’s President Sarah Schrader about resumes and salary negotiation. We also got some very useful tips on financial planning during college from Skip Nelson. During lunch we were able to visit with girls from many of the other wonderful royal families attending. After lunch we heard from Ellery McCardle, who works at Kare 11. I especially loved hearing from her about how she found her passion for journalism and her story about how she got to Kare 11. Lastly, we finished off the day by hearing from Camryn Nelson about  professional branding and networking. The event was very fun and empowering, and I learned so much from it!
